Today I embarked on the second workout in the P90X series:
Called Plyometrics, check out the video on the P90X page half way down.
I felt very much like an idiot doing most of the things in this workout. Mainly because I really can’t do most of these things (not exactly like they do, at least). I tried to at least do ONE of each exercise – one GOOD one that is. Form is very important, and while some I could only do a few, others I was able to do the entire 30 seconds.
My big fear is that I’ll hurt myself. By that I mean a more serious type strain or pull that will put me on the sidelines for a few weeks. Why would I say that? Well, back a couple of years ago, I was taking a family picture for Thanksgiving… I set the camera on a tripod and set the timer and ran back to get in the picture… no, more like jogged.. no, not even that fast.. and POP my calf muscle tore. I actually heard the “POP”. I was in excruciating pain for a good day and then it took me a good week or more to recover.
Doing all those squats and such made me think of that experience, and I was a bit afraid I might hurt myself.
So, like I said, I did at least ONE good one and the second set I tried to do at least 5. It was not easy! I did get a good heart rate up and if I couldn’t finish the 30 second or 1 minute piece, I’d at least jump in place or walk around so that I didn’t stop moving.
Two down, with any luck, I’ll be on to #3 tomorrow. I still need to get a ride in this week – I wasn’t able to because of scheduling, but perhaps I can squeeze one in tonight. Stay tuned.
It’s much better to have good form then try to be a hero right out of the box, as Tony would say. An injury puts everything on hold. It’s better to make slow steady progress than go backwards.
